The Bridge. From takes to a cut.
A tool we are developing for spoken-to-camera films: organising takes and transcripts into cutdowns an editor can inspect and shape.
Keep the meaning.
Find the cut.
For spoken-to-camera films, a useful sentence might be spread across several takes. We’re building a way to trace those choices back to the footage and give an editor a clearer place to begin.
Take A · 00:12We started with a question.
Take B · 00:38Could we make repairing things easier?
Take C · 01:04Then we put a workbench in the room.

Find what was said.
Organise takes against a transcript, keeping a route back to the source. These sample lines and timecodes are invented for this explanation.
What we’re working on.
A workflow for matching takes, proposing cutdowns and reviewing the decisions before moving into an edit. Developed from our own spoken-to-camera production work, with an assistant helping organise material.
What stays with the editor.
Meaning, context, performance and rhythm. A transcript cannot tell you everything a face or a pause is doing. Suggested cuts need to be watched, questioned and shaped.
Would this help your work?
Tell us what you make and where your edit gets stuck. We can let you know when there’s a preview to try.
